The Role

Ready to start your career in AI and Data Engineering? At Gleeds, you'll join our AI team and help build and improve the technology that supports colleagues across our global business. Working alongside experienced developers and AI specialists, you'll contribute to real projects from day one while developing your technical skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

AI and Data Engineering

Our AI team develops and maintains the platforms, data pipelines, and AI-powered solutions that help improve the way Gleeds works. As a Junior AI & Data Engineer, you'll gain hands-on experience across a range of technologies, helping to design, build, and support systems used across the business.

Key areas of the role include:

Data Engineering

• Building and improving data pipelines and integrations
• Supporting data quality, analytics, and search capabilities
• Working with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and other business systems

Platform Development

• Supporting the development of backend services and APIs
• Contributing to features and enhancements across our AI platform
• Working with cloud-based technologies and modern development practices

AI Systems and Optimisation

• Assisting with the development and improvement of AI-powered solutions
• Supporting testing, evaluation, and optimisation activities
• Learning how AI systems are designed and deployed in a production environment Operations and Support

• Helping monitor and maintain systems running in Microsoft Azure
• Supporting releases, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities
• Working closely with colleagues across Digital, IT, Security, and the wider business
  
  

Your role will encompass (but is not limited to) the following:

• Supporting the design, development, and maintenance of AI and data solutions used across Gleeds
• Building and improving data pipelines, integrations, and backend services
• Contributing to the delivery of new platform features and enhancements
• Producing clear documentation, test plans, and technical handover materials
• Following established security, governance, and change management processes
• Collaborating with developers, AI specialists, business stakeholders, and support teams
• Assisting with monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining production systems
• Continuously developing your knowledge across software engineering, cloud technologies, data engineering, and AI

What we're looking for:

• A degree or master's degree (completed or completing by August 2027) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline
• Strong programming skills, ideally with experience in Python
• An understanding of databases and data management concepts
• Interest in cloud technologies and the Microsoft ecosystem
• Curiosity about AI technologies and how they can be applied in a business environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
• A proactive approach to learning and developing new technical skills
• Awareness of good data governance and security practices
• Right to live and work in the UK

Desirable skills

• Experience with SQL or database technologies
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms
• Knowledge of APIs, integrations, or web development technologies
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as Copilot or similar coding assistants
• Experience working on personal, academic, or open-source software projects
